SHS Alumni Association Article

Scarsdale High School Class of 1973 held its thirtieth reunion over the weekend of September 19-20, 2003. Thanks to a dedicated Reunion Committee (Scott Kimbriel, Bob Schultz, Beth Turtz, Martin Whalen, Jim Wolchok), as well as the Scarsdale Alumni Association and the power of the Internet, the reunion weekend broke attendance records, as approximately 250 guests (including over 175 graduates) participated!

The festivities began with a celebration on Friday, September 19th at Orienta Beach Club in Mamaroneck, NY, where 140 guests gathered and classmates reunited (in many instances, for the first time in 30 years). All who attended were moved by a special video, prepared by Scott Kimbriel, which began with a memorial for our deceased classmates listed below, and which also contained touching memories of our years together from grade schools, through junior high and high school.

Saturday morning, September 20th, many classmates and families enjoyed a picnic at the High School, followed by a SHS football game. We also were treated to tours of the High School and the Alternative School.

On Saturday evening, September 20th, approximately 220 guests (including over 160 classmates!) attended a dinner at the Red Oak Mansion at The Westchester Renaissance Hotel. The video was shown again, for those who couldn’t be there Friday night. All attendees received a commemorative Reunion T-shirt (a replica of our graduation T-shirt).

We had an extraordinary and close class – which may account for the fact that Classmates came from at least 24 States, Washington D.C., as well as Canada, Spain, France and Australia! It was a very special and unique weekend. What fun reminiscing in a room full of happy smiling people, for whom we all feel a special affection. We rekindled old friendships and sparked many new ones. The only complaint was over inadequate time to talk to everyone!

Here are just a few comments from some of our classmates:

“That was so much fun and happiness!”

“I was thrilled to see so many of my classmates – many of whose names appear to begin with “Ohmygod!”

“It became more of a "family" reunion than a "class" reunion!”

“I think we all had as much fun as we did in high school -- anyway, I did – great memories to keep me looking forward to the next one!”

“At 3:45 in the morning Saturday night [someone said,] ‘there should be a reunion every year!’ and WE ALL AGREED.”

“Let’s not wait another 10 years.”

“Never enough time to party with old friends…”

“It was a heartwarming weekend… [After] all the ups and downs life has brought a lot of us in the last 30 years, it was a weekend to make even some of the most stubborn of us learn that life still has many incredibly wonderful times to come.”

We missed those of you who could not be with us and hope that you will be able to join us for the next reunion! Check out our web site: www.shs73.org for photos! Also, be sure to visit the “My Profile” section on the site and update your contact information so that we can find you for the next reunion!
